The Danbury Colonials have brought Wesley Westendorf on board for the 2019-20 season. Westendorf hails from Little Rock, Arkansas, where he last played for the Little Rock Aces 16U team. He established himself as a scorer, finishing second on the team in both goals and points in 2017-18.
“As soon as I came to camp in June, it was clear that the Danbury Colonials are definitely the program to help me take my skills to the next level” Westendorf said. “I cannot wait to get the season started!”
“Wesley is a player that I am excited to work with and see develop this season,” head coach Kevin Cunningham commented. “He plays hard, using his speed and tenacity to make himself a strong presence on the forecheck.”
Westendorf fits into the mold Cunningham is formulating in Danbury by playing with both skill and aggression. While Westendorf has a strong left-handed shot that can bury a goal when needed, Colonials coaches are more impressed by his responsibility with the puck and energy in puck battles.
“I’m confident that he will be a guy who contributes to our team’s success and grows throughout the season,” Cunningham said.
The Danbury Colonials are a Tier III team in the NA3HL based out of Danbury Arena. The puck drops on their inaugural season Sunday, September 15th at Skylands Ice World in New Jersey as they take on the Skylands Kings. Their first home game will be played at Danbury Arena on Friday, September 27th against the New England Stars at 7 p.m.
