DANBURY, CT– Brandon Cope recorded his second hat trick in three games and added two assists, while Kyle McEnany added two goals and three assists as the Colonials bested the Long Beach Sharks 11-1 Saturday night in Danbury.
The Colonials started fast with a five-goal first period. Kevin Remson opened the scoring followed by Cope, Maverik Skeans and two from McEnany to extend the lead. McEnany’s first goal capped a gorgeous passing play from Cope to Cole Madzey to the goal scorer.
The Sharks got one back early in the second before Cope and Remson each netted their second goals of the evening. Kolby Donovan fired home a wrister off a turnover to give Danbury an 8-1 lead after two periods.
Franklin Berry’s first junior goal was a laser that found its way through traffic to the back of the net. Cope completed his hat trick with a powerplay tally. Connor Lefkof added the game’s final score.
Madzey and Misha Mshar each had a pair of assists in the game. Dylan Webber and Wesley Westendorf also chipped in with helpers of their own.
Alex Fernandes earned the win in net. Backup netminder Sam Boos stopped 14 shots in a relief appearance.
“It was a good bounce-back win after a frustrating loss Friday,” said assistant coach Brian Allen. “All around a good team effort. The focus has shifted to tomorrow.”
“The boys really came out flying,” commented Remson. “There’s no doubt we were ready to go. We were all on the same page and knew what we needed to do individually. I’m super proud of the boys, and definitely ready to get back after it. Choo choo!”
“Everyone put in a full 60 minutes,” added Brandon Cope. “It was great to get a strong win after a tough loss.”
