LONG BEACH, NY– Brandon Cope recorded the Colonials’ second hat trick in three games while Kyle McEnany tallied five points en route to a 6-2 Danbury victory over the Long Beach Sharks Saturday night.
The Sharks would strike first, but Brandon Cope would answer in the opening frame with a laser on the powerplay. Long Beach would again take the lead in the second period.
Wesley Westendorf won an offensive zone draw for Danbury that Brady Hill tracked down below the goal line. Hill wired a no-look pass to McEnany, who converted the opportunity to knot the score at two.
McEnany would give the Colonials the lead less than a minute later, which Danbury would not relinquish. Brandon Cope would complete his hat trick early in the second period, scoring twice within 43 seconds. The Colonials would net four goals within two minutes of play.
Maverik Skeans would tack on a goal in the third period to wrap up the 6-2 triumph. Alex Fernandes made 27 stops in the win.
“We had a rough start but found our stride in the second period,” said Fernandes. “Cope and Mac had great games, [Brady] Hill blocked a big shot and had an overall good game too.”
Hill departed the game early after blocking a shot, requiring a hospital visit and stitches. He is not expected to miss much time, considered as day-to-day.
“Alex played a great game and was huge when he needed to be,” said assistant coach Brian Allen. “It was a good team effort, and a total buy-in game.”
