HOLYOKE, Mass – The Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL) entered the win column for the first time on Wednesday night, with a 3-1 win over the Bay State Bobcats.
Nikita Kovalev stole the show in the contest, netting two of the Hat Tricks’ three goals. His first goal came late in the first period, with 15.6 seconds on the clock, when he stole a puck in the neutral zone and coasted down the left wing to score over the blocker of Bay State goaltender Ben Di Fiore.
Kovalev continued the scoring just 2:44 into the second period. Kovalev capped off his three-point night assisting on the Hat Tricks’ third goal of the night, scored by Daniel Khatib with 1:09 left in the second period.
Khatib continues his fast start to the season after registering a hat trick on Saturday against New Jersey.
“Tonight was a very gutsy effort from our guys,” said Head Coach Tyler Noseworthy. “We are, and have been very short-staffed, but tonight, that didn’t faze us at all.”
“We had a high compete-level for a full 60 minutes. I’m very proud of how the team responded tonight. Our leaders and veterans stepped up and lead the way. Gibber played an inspired game between the pipes tonight. I’m very excited to see what kind of damage we are going to do with a full line up.”
The Jr. Hat Tricks got a boost from between the pipes on Wednesday night, with goaltender Liam McGibbon notching his first win of the season and stopping 59 of 60 Bobcats shots.
The Jr. Hat Tricks are back in action on Friday night at home against Long Beach. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. in Danbury Arena and you can watch live on HockeyTV.
