JR. HAT TRICKS WIN CLOSE AFFAIR IN SHOOTOUT

LONG BEACH, NY – The Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (13-11-0-3, 29 pts) inched closer to the second-place Long Beach Sharks (16-7-3, 35 pts) on Saturday, beating the Sharks 3-2 in a shootout.

The Hat Tricks started the scoring in the first period with Nick Rogers’ 15th goal of the season, assisted by Dylan Walker (7) and Daniel Khatib (12).

Danbury held that lead through the end of the first period. After a Long Beach goal early in the second, both teams headed to the third period scoreless.

With 1:21 left in regulation, Reese Tamburo netted his fifth of the season from Nikita Kovalev (14). However, the Hat Tricks couldn’t hold the lead as Ryo Yamamoto scored for Long Beach with 38 seconds left.

The two teams skated through overtime without finding a winning goal. In the shootout, Rogers and Kovalev both capitalized and goaltender Brennan Churchill stopped two of three Long Beach attempts to seal the win.

Churchill stopped 28 of 30 shots to earn his sixth win in nine games for the Hat Tricks.

Danbury is back on the road Sunday night as they head to Bay State to finish a back-to-back road-weekend.
