DANBURY, CT– The NA3HL Jr. Hat Tricks dropped their season opener Saturday night, falling to the Northeast Generals 8-1.
Danbury leapt out to an early lead as Wesley Westendorf netted the first goal of the NA3HL season for the Jr. Hat Tricks, assisted by Connor Lefkof and Dylan Harbour. Westendorf began the season much how last one ended, as he completed his 2019-20 campaign with points in four of his last five contests.
Northeast would answer back in short order, tying the score courtesy of a Deacon More goal. Sean Gorman would give the Generals the lead heading into the first intermission.
The Generals would pull away with two goals in the second period, and four more in the third. Northeast’s Nick Ramm potted four goals for the Generals.
Alex Fernandes stopped 26 shots for the Jr. Hat Tricks, with Landon Palmer coming in relief in the third period.
“We did some good things, but weren’t crisp or consistent enough,” commented Danbury head coach Kevin Cunningham. “Give them credit for taking advantage of their opportunities. We have some areas to work on, but we learned a lot as a team and will take steps this week to continue to develop.”
Danbury’s next game will be on home ice against the Generals on Oct. 11 at 4:10pm.
