DANBURY, CT – The Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (20-14-1-3, 44 pts) cliched a playoff-berth on Monday as they beat the Long Beach Sharks (21-11-2-3, 47 pts) 3-2 in overtime.
Antonio Felidi (4) opened the scoring at 10:09 of the first period with a short-handed goal. Long Beach took just 3:14 to tie the game after that and the teams headed to the first intermission in a 1-1 tie.
In the second period, Long Beach peppered Hat Tricks goaltender Brennan Churchill with 15 shots. Churchill stopped all 15 to keep the game tied as Danbury was outshot 15-6 in the second.
In the third, Devin Carney gave Long Beach its first lead of the game at 5:50. Danbury responded, however, after trailing for the first time.
Nick Rogers carried the puck to the slot and beat Sharks goaltender Ryo Murakami to the blocker-side, tying the game at 2.
The game headed to overtime with the Hat Tricks having a power play to start the extra period.
Exactly one minute in, Dylan Walker (13) set up Jacob Deitsch (6) to put home the game-winner.
Danbury gained one point on Long Beach with the win and now sit three points back. The Hat Tricks are back in action on the road against the New Jersey Titans on Wednesday.
