DANBURY, CT – The Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks engaged in one of the most intense games of the season against the undefeated Northeast Generals at home on Tuesday.
After allowing two early goals, Danbury fought back with three of its own. The top line was cooking early, with Nikita Kovalev scoring his 15th of the season with Dylan Walker and Elijah Devereaux assisting on the play.
Not even two minutes later, Walker netted one of his own unassisted to tie the game up. Kovalev would double his goal total with a late first-period goal to give Danbury a 3-2 lead going into intermission. Devereaux and Walker assisted on the goal once again.
Danbury surrendered an early second-period and third-period goal, forcing the Hat Tricks to fight their way back once again.
Oleg Egorov would deliver the game-tying goal in the final minutes of the last period, slotting home a one-time shot on the power play, with Daniel Khatib and Jacob Deitsch notching assists on the goal.
Neither team was able to score the game-winner during overtime, so the hard-fought battle needed a shootout to decide the winner. The Generals claimed the shootout victory in the twelfth round.
Brennan Churchill stood on his head all game, stopping 53 of 57 shots, including multiple key saves during a Danbury penalty kill in overtime.
The Hat Tricks are heading to Minnesota for the NA3HL showcase next week where they will play outside of the NA3HL East for the first time all season.
