DANBURY, CT – The Danbury Hat Tricks (6-9-0-1) welcomed the Norwich Sea Captains (2-12-0) to Danbury Arena on Saturday evening and earned a gritty, 2-1 victory.
Saturday’s game was marred with penalties for both teams, the first period saw nine infractions, the second saw eight, and the third saw seven. For a total of 24 infractions totaling 67 penalty minutes.
Norwich opened the scoring at 17:01 of the first period when Ethan Ranger unleashed a slapshot that found the back of the net to give Norwich the 1-0 lead.
After that goal, Brennan Churchill, who made his debut in net for Danbury, was perfect for the rest of the night stopping all 20 of the remaining shots he faced.
The Hat Tricks would score a lone goal in the second and third period to win the game 2-1.
Nikita Kovalev lit the lamp in the second period after hitting a post earlier in the game to tie the game up. The game entered the third period tied at one and remained deadlocked until less than five minutes were remaining.
Elijah Devereaux scored the game-winner on a nasty wrap-around goal. Devereaux got the puck off of a faceoff, took it behind the net, and swept it past the outstretched toe of the Norwich netminder to give the Hat Tricks a 2-1 victory.
The Hat Tricks will be back in action twice this week, with road games on Friday and Sunday. After those contests, the Hat Tricks will break until after Thanksgiving, returning to action on the 1st of December.
