DANBURY, CT– Kolby Donovan netted a pair of goals in a key 2-1 victory over the Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles Saturday afternoon, completing a weekend sweep of the Colonials’ Northeastern Division rivals.
Donovan’s first goal came 11:49 into the second period, as he was sprung into the offensive zone by a Kyle McEnany pass. Donovan deftly deked past a defender, lifting a backhander past the Eagles’ netminder.
Elmira would knot the score minutes later, but Donovan would blast a slapshot from beyond the blueline off the inside of the post to give the orange-and-black a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Shane O’Brien made 13 saves in the third period to secure the victory.
“It felt great to respond with another strong effort against a hard-nosed team like Elmira,” said assistant coach Brian Allen. “We got a great performance from Shane in net both nights, that was key.”
“I think we played a better defensive game tonight,” commented Kyle McEnany. “Shane did his thing in net. It’s a good sweep for us.”
The Colonials will host the New England Knights this Saturday and Sunday.
