DANBURY, CT– Brandon Cope and Kyle McEnany once again led the way for the Danbury Colonials, combining for five points including a shorthanded goal in a 5-3 victory over the Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles.
Cope’s first goal, assisted by Connor Lefkof and McEnany, was followed up just 31 seconds later by a Misha Mshar strike assisted by Kevin Remson and Maverik Skeans. Danbury would take a 2-1 lead into the second period.
Dylan Webber would intercept an errant pass while shorthanded and deposit a breakaway goal early in the second. Moments later, Cope would strip an Elmira defenseman and rifle home a second shorthanded goal for the Colonials, extending their lead to 4-1.
Elmira would cut into the deficit, but McEnany would strike with 11 seconds remaining in the period to give the black-and-orange a 5-2 lead heading into the intermission.
Though Elmira would score once more in the early goings of the third, Shane O’Brien would finish with 20 saves to lock down the win.
“We responded well,” said assistant coach Brian Allen. “We’re playing the way we need to leading up to the playoffs.”
“The boys played really together,” commented McEnany. “Going into the playoffs, it’s a good team effort.”
